Concrete is a durable, relatively affordable, and low-maintenance material. Although concrete is perhaps most commonly associated with forming the basis of large-scale infrastructure projects and structures, it’s also widely used in industrial design and furniture manufacturing, thanks to its versatility and ability to assume an array of geometries. The six products below demonstrate how designers have creatively leveraged these characteristics to mold concrete into unexpected functional or decorative objects.

  • Aplomb Mini by Foscarini

Fabricated using a custom concrete mix, this decorative pendant is perfect for task lighting and adding an industrial touch to interior spaces.

  • Perplex Bench by Nienkämper

For indoor and outdoor applications, this minimalist concrete bench is made using a new technique that eliminates the need for reinforcement molds or bars.

  • Vettis Concrete by Brizo

Limited to production of only 500 pieces worldwide, this industrial faucet was handmade at Canadian sculptor Christopher Shannon's studio in British Columbia, using fiber-reinforced concrete.
