Firm Description

Established in 1910.

HFR Design traces its origins to 1910 in Nashville, Tennessee, when a young architect named Russell Hart left New York for Nashville to oversee the construction of the Hermitage Hotel. Upon the landmark hotel’s completion, Hart decided to take advantage of Nashville’s burgeoning economy and established his own practice using his unique style of Gothic Architecture. He joined forces with engineers F. Eugene Freeland and Martin S. Roberts in 1920, along with architect George D. Nevins. Together they formed Nashville’s first major architectural and engineering firm: Hart Nevins Freeland Roberts, Architects and Engineers.

In 2010, HFR Celebrated its 100 Year Anniversary. HFR’s team of licensed Architects, Engineers, Surveyors, and Interior Designers serve an ever-expanding list of clientele across the U.S. Many of those clients, which include government agencies, private businesses, educational institutions, religious organizations, health care providers, medical research organizations.
