Project Description

The Calaway Young Cancer Center is a Planetree facility, adopting many concepts of patient-centered care. The architecture is non-institutional in nature, representing a “health hotel” environment into which the patient is greeted by a valet-attended covered lobby. Volunteers greet patients at the lobby and assist them to their destination. One floor up, the patient is greeted immediately at the main Cancer Center reception and check-in desk. From there, they are directed or escorted to either Exam areas, Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, or various integrated services like massage and yoga classes.

The Cancer Center was completed in September of 2012 and is highlighted by a two-story atrium open to dining facilities at the second floor level as well as to a Healing Garden with water features at the main level. A Chapel is located adjacent to the Atrium for those seeking spiritual comfort.
