Architect Avi Friedman’s Narrow Houses: New Directions in Efficient Design (Princeton Architectural Press, $45) explores the centuries-old narrow house prototype as it gains renewed favor among home buyers interested in smaller, more efficient homes in cities and suburbs. Through 28 narrow house case studies from around the world, Friedman explores practical considerations such as siting, floor arrangements, footprint, interior and exterior finishing, and adapting the design to budget, family size, and other considerations. Extensive interior and exterior photos, as well as floor plans, are included alongside each project study.
