Yesterday, AIA and the American Library Association (ALA) announced the winners of the 2019 AIA/ALA Library Building Awards. The program honors projects anywhere in the world as long as they permit public access and are completed by an architect licensed in the United States. This year, a six-person jury recognized six projects, all located in the U.S. and Canada.

Chaired by Charles Higueras, FAIA, program manager for the City of San Francisco Public Works, this year’s jury comprised Becca Cavell, FAIA, an associate at Portland, Ore–based Bora Architects; Brian Chase, director of the Normal Public Library in Normal, Ill.; Charles Wray, AIA, principal at Washington, D.C.–based Quinn Evans Architects; Clem Guthro, former dean of the library at California State University, Fullerton; and Jill Friedmann, assistant dean of Northern Arizona University’s Cline Library in Flagstaff, Ariz.
