The EPA Solicits Input on Its Role in the Sustainable Products Realm

1 MIN READ

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is soliciting individual stakeholder input on the agency’s role in the development, manufacture, designation, and use of sustainable, green, or environmentally preferable products. Comments can be submitted online at regulations.gov, or by mail or hand delivery to the Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) Document Control Office at EPA, and must be received by Oct. 19, 2010. All comments submitted should reference the docket identification number EPA-HQ-OPPT-2010-0768.

According to the listing published in the Federal Register on Sept. 16, 2010, the EPA is specifically interested feedback on the challenges, opportunities, and trends impacting sustainable product development, manufacturing, and designation. In particular, the agency is seeking feedback on EPA’s potential role in assembling information and databases, setting product sustainability priorities, developing sustainable product criteria, evaluating product impact, generating eco-labels and standards, verifying that products meet sustainable standards, and developing end-of-life programs.

Per agency policy, all comments received, as well as any personal information provided, will be included in the docket and will be available online at regulations.gov. However, the system is set up so that EPA will not know a commenter’s identity unless it is provided in the body of the comment. For more information, visit federalregister.gov, or contact the Pollution Prevention Information Clearinghouse at ppic@epa.gov; 202-566-0799.
