The U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon 2013 will take place from Oct. 3–13, 2013, at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, Calif., the agency has announced. The competition will be open to visitors for eight days, from Oct. 3­­­­­­­­­­­­­­–6 and Oct. 10–13.

As in years past, the 2013 event will feature 20 highly efficient solar-powered homes designed and built by collegiate teams from around the world. The teams, which were previously announced, will compete in 10 categories, such as architecture, engineering, heating and cooling, and affordability.
