Elemix concrete additive from Syntheon—a wholly owned subsidiary of Nova Chemicals—is made up of lightweight polymeric spheres and is now available in an ICC-ES-code-complying version in gray and in white. Created for lightweight concrete designs, such as elevated decks, floors, and manufactured concrete products, the additive reduces the weight, but not the structural properties, of concrete. Structural lightweight concrete reduces the dead load of a structure, which allows specifiers to reduce the size of columns, footings, and other load-bearing elements. Elemix is approved as a partial replacement for conventional code-complying fine or coarse aggregate, and, because particles disperse evenly in the mix, provides reliable consistency. elemix.com
