Specialists in Bohemian glass products, Prague-based Preciosa Lighting is injecting a dose of whimsy into the 2018 Salone del Mobile in Milan (through April 22) with its latest design concept, “Breathing New Life into Light.” Resembling a cloud of bubbles, the installation features hundreds of opaque and translucent orbs that emit or reflect light.

“Breath of Light … demonstrates that with design and technical ingenuity it is possible to transform the properties of chandeliers into playful installations,” said Preciosa Lighting creative director Michael Vasku in a press release. “It will be a fascinating experience that will not only create many smiles, but also make guests’ catch their breath in awe.”

Visitors are invited to interact with the installation by walking in between and around the orbs, which brighten and dim. Visitors can blow into multiple custom orbs situated at the peripheries of the mass allowing further manipulation of the lighting patterns and surrounding music.

Preciosa is also debuting its new Pearl Drop pendant, by Dutch designer Frank Tjepkema. According to the lighting company, Tjepkema was inspired by a 15th-century painting to pair hand-blown glass, illuminating opal spheres with brass details to imitate “a piece of jewelry.”
