This year’s WantedDesign Manhattan, part of the two-week-long NYCxDesign takeover of New York City, showcased the work of 170 designers from around the world at the Terminal Stores building, in Chelsea, from May 7 to 17. Pyrs, Lake + Wells
From the Chicago-based design studio whose name more or less pinpoints its location in the city, this versatile LED luminaire combines organic crystal forms with machined brass. Pyrs emits a light that is scattered by its prism structure, creating a dynamic reflection of glass onto its environment. Ice-Cast Bronze Cocktail Table #1, Steven Haulenbeek
The Ice-Cast Bronze Cocktail Table #1 is formed using ice molds hand carved by Haulenbeek, a Chicago-based designer. The process entails cutting a recess into a block of solid ice, into which hot casting wax is poured. Once the wax cools, Haulenbeek uses the lost-wax process to cast the mold into bronze.
