GE Energy Smart Bulb

GE’s new Energy Smart 9-watt LED bulb looks almost like an incandescent replacement product, but it has heat-reducing fins that distribute light like a traditional 40-watt product. The bulb has a life span of more than 25,000 hours (or 17 years based on four hours of daily use), which is 25 times longer than a 40-watt incandescent or halogen bulb and more than three times longer than a standard compact fluorescent, the company says. It costs $40 to $50. GE Appliances & Lighting, 800.435.4448; www.ge.com.
