Drink Your Coffee, Plant the Cup

1 MIN READ

What’s your usual routine once you’ve finished your daily coffee? Just toss the cup out right? (Or if you’re environmentally conscious, wash your cup for tomorrow). What if your new routine was to bury it and watch a tree grow? That’s the goal of a Kickstarter from Reduce. Reuse. Grow. Their pitch is simple, take fibers from recycling centers and turn them into a cup that’s embedded with the seeds of local wildlife. The Kickstarter illustrates how this process would work.

“The consumer drinks their coffee from the coffee shop. If they choose to take the cup with them, they can plant it in several scenarios based off of the seed variety embedded within the cup. They can see the seed variety displayed on the front of their cup as well as planting instructions on the bottom of the cup. Unravel the cup, soak in water for 5 minutes and watch grow!”

And if you just toss the cup out like normal? It’s designed to be completely biodegradable and be gone within 180 days. Check out the full Kickstarter page for more information on the project.
