A new training program is empowering subcontractors who are on the front lines of the fight for water conservation: plumbers.
GreenPlumbers is a national training and accreditation program exploring plumbing issues in environmental and public health. The organization’s goal is to enable plumbers to promote the benefits of water conservation and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, the program will focus on changing consumer behavior through the use of energy efficiency and water-saving technologies.
Since its inception in January, GreenPlumbers has retrained more than 3,100 plumbers. “In the next 10 years we plan to train 15,000 green plumbers in California and 40,000 nationally,” says spokesperson Stephen Lehtonen.
The program consists of a five-course, 32-hour accreditation in environmental and technical issues, including indoor climate issues, solar hot water, and water-efficient technology. Workshops will soon be held in San Antonio, Texas, and Sacramento, Calif. To request training for a specific area, call 888.929.6207.
