Detroit, Mich.-based Floyd has created a modular, platform bed that can easily be moved and transitioned, ideal for apartment dwellers who need to make a small space more functional. Unlike most conventional beds, the Floyd Platform Bed doesn’t require any tools or special skills to assemble and disassemble, and it’s easy for one person to move around.

Comprised of honeycomb core panels with a birch veneer finish,
the bed is extremely strong, but maintains a light weight. The bed adopts a weight distribution technology that
strategically maximizes the strength of the frame without compromising aesthetic. Tension straps installed between panels keep components
tight and anchored, but also allow increased flexibility.

The design team at Floyd conceived the idea for the transitional bed two years ago, and is now running a Kickstarter campaign where customers can make donations and pre-order the product before it lands on the market. The goal is to raise $82,000 by Dec. 18, and based off the $49,131 already donated (as of Nov. 30), the design firm is meeting a need with the proposed product.
