A Guide to Understanding Green Standards and Certification

1 MIN READ

To help specifiers, contractors, consumers, and others make smarter choices when it comes to green products, Air Quality Sciences has released the white paper “Primary Green Product Standards and Certification Programs: A Comparison.” The report considers eight “primary movers” in the marketplace: Cradle to Cradle, Energy Star, the Forest Stewardship Council, Green Seal, GreenGuard, the GreenSpec Directory, the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, and WaterSense.

Each is categorized by one of three definitions for standards or product certification (first-, second-, or third-party), and the report answers four questions about each program: What are the primary goals and characteristics? How much need is there for the program? What products are covered? How does the program work?
