According to a new press release from the US Green Building Council, the demand for LEED credentials in the job market has increased 46% in the last year. Even with a network of more than 197,000 LEED Accredited Professionals and Green Associates, there is still room for growth.
A study conducted by USGBC partner Pearson found that 9,033 jobs posted from March 2013 to February 2014 required a LEED credential. Top fields requiring applicants to be have a LEED credential include engineering, architecture, construction, interior design, sales and property managements and software development.
Pearson also conducted a study that found LEED credentials are the highest demanded skill in green building related jobs. A study of 2,354 US job postings in the green building field found that 59% of postings requiring LEED compared to only 17% for the second most demanded skill.
The LEED Accredited Professional credential is meant for those working on LEED projects and requires specific, advanced knowledge in a specialized area of green building and LEED certification. The Green Associate credential is meant for those seeking more general knowledge of green building principals or those new to field of sustainability.
