Millennials Demand More Smart Technology and Renewable Energy from Utilities

Millennials are demanding that their utilities catch up to the 21st century.

Millennials don’t just want their homes to be smarter, they want the companies powering their homes to be smarter, too.

A new report from Accenture found 61% of millennials want sign up for a digital application which can allow them to track their energy usage and control their household climate in the next five years. More than half of them (56%) want to install solar panels in the same time frame. That’s compared to 36% and 30% of baby boomers who said the same things, respectively.

The survey shows the constant technological evolution wanted by millennials, including with basic services. It demonstrates a desire for a more consumer-friendly “plug and play” style of energy service for the 21st century.

Managing Director of Accenture energy Tony Masella said companies must take these suggestions of millennials more seriously as customer tastes are changing quickly within the energy industry.
