Speirs + Major have announced the promotion of five of its team members. They are as follows:
Andrew Howis has been made a managing partner. He has worked for the firm for eight years and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the office in addition to his design work. He oversaw the award-winning lighting design for the Burlington Arcade in London, and is currently working on the redevelopment of King’s Cross. He is also leading a major hospitality project in Qatar with David Chipperfield Architects.
Clementine Rodgers has been promoted to associate partner after nine years with the firm. Her team recently completed Maggie’s Centre, Newcastle and JW3 in London. The team is currently working on a wide range of projects including the interior of Battersea Power Station with Wilkinson Eyre Architects.
Philip Rose has taken on the role of the office’s design integrator. In this new position, he will draw on his 15 years of experience working on award-winning projects such as Terminal 5, Heathrow, Pannonhalma Monastery, and Sackler Crossing to oversee creative design co-ordination, technical leadership, and quality control across projects practice-wide.
Satu Streatfield has been made a design associate. She has worked with Speirs + Major for seven years and leads a design team that focuses on urban design and light master planning. She recently completed a lighting strategy for both Bath and for Derby city centers.
Hiroto Toyoda has been promoted to senior designer. With the firm for three years, Toyoda worked on the recently completed Mayfair wine shop, Hedonism. He is currently working on architectural and retail solutions including the interior lighting for three commercial towers with Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners in Sydney.
Additionally, the firm has also added a new group of assistant designers in the past year. These individuals are: Jack Wates, Sam Tuck, Stephanie Christofi, Jamie Fuentes-McGreevy, and Neville De Sa.
“Speirs + Major have moved into a new phase of its development,” said principals Mark Major and Keith Bradshaw. “We have a great team and an incredible range of new projects. Our new expanded London studio provides more space to breathe and test our ideas. It represents an exciting catalyst to continue our legacy of creating and delivering imaginative projects.”

Elizabeth Donoff is Editor-at-Large of Architectural Lighting (AL). She served as Editor-in-Chief from 2006 to 2017. She joined the editorial team in 2003 and is a leading voice in the lighting community speaking at industry events such as Lightfair and the International Association of Lighting Designers Annual Enlighten Conference, and has twice served as a judge for the Illuminating Engineering Society New York City Section’s (IESNYC) Lumen Award program. In 2009, she received the Brilliance Award from the IESNYC for dedicated service and contribution to the New York City lighting community. Over the past 11 years, under her editorial direction, Architectural Lighting has received a number of prestigious B2B journalism awards. In 2017, Architectural Lighting was a Top Ten Finalist for Magazine of the Year from the American Society of Business Publication Editors' AZBEE Awards. In 2016, Donoff received the Jesse H. Neal Award for her Editor’s Comments in the category of Best Commentary/Blog, and in 2015, AL received a Jesse H. Neal Award for Best Media Brand (Overall Editorial Excellence).Prior to her entry into design journalism, Donoff worked in New York City architectural offices including FXFowle where she was part of the project teams for the Reuters Building at Three Times Square and the New York Times Headquarters. She is a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Me., and she earned her Master of Architecture degree from the School of Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis.
