Luke Smith-Wightman, a senior lighting designer at U.K.-based architecture and engineering firm BDP, has received the Young Lighting Designer Award from Les Trophées LumiVille, an international competition judged by representatives from LumiVille?the International Public and Exterior Lighting Fair, the French lighting designers association?ACE, and the City of Lyon.

Smith-Wightman’s work impressed the judges, particularly the daylighting strategy implemented at Westminster Academy in London. The project was Stirling Prize-nominated and won a 2008 A|L Light & Architecture Design Award for Best Incorporation of Daylighting. “I am delighted and honoured to win the ‘Jeune Concepteur’ award,” said Smith-Wightman, who joined BDP in 2002. “The judging panel recognized the aesthetic, technical, and operational quality of lighting design undertaken on Westminster Academy. This win is further confirmation of the good design work undertaken by the whole architectural and engineering team involved on the project.”
