The National Electrical Manufacturers Association’s (NEMA) Electroindustry Business Conditions Index (EBCI) rose for the third-consecutive month in June, reaching a mark of 59.4 from 53.3 in May. Meanwhile, four in 10 panelists surveyed reported an improvement in conditions during the period, up from two in 10 saying the same in May; 19 percent indicated a worsening in conditions in June versus 13 percent who indicated so in May. Forty-four percent of the panelists surveyed said that business conditions were unchanged in June, compared to the 67 percent who said so in May.

The survey also measures the intensity of change in the electroindustry, which remained consistent in June from May at +0.2. Panelists are asked to rate the intensity change on a scale from -0.5 (deteriorated significantly) to +5 (improved significantly).

The EBCI for North American industry business conditions over the next six months continued to improve in June, rising to 59.4 from 56.7 in May, with 44 percent of respondents in June anticipating better conditions ahead compared to the 27 percent of respondents who said the same in May. One-quarter of panelists said they anticipate conditions worsening in the coming six months compared to the 13 percent who said so in May. The number of panelists anticipating minimal to no change halved from 60 percent in May to 31 percent in June.

The report is based on responses from 16 panelists who are senior managers at NEMA member companies.
