Speirs + Major principals, Mark Major and Keith Bradshaw, in collaboration with photographer James Newton have launched a video project titled “Made of Light Too: A Closer Look at Light.” The video project marks the 10th anniversary of the publication of Made of Light: The Art of Light and Architecture, authored by Mark Major, the late Jonathan Speirs, and Anthony Tischhauser.

The video clips follow the outline of the book and distill the chapters, each of which focuses on a different lighting theme—Source, Contrast, Surface, Color, Movement, Function, Form, Space, Boundary, Scale, Image, and Magic—into “…an evocative collection that celebrates the essence of light.”

The first two videos in the 12-part series were launched on Nov. 16. One new video will be released each week through Jan. 31, 2016.

“It seems impossible that 10 years have elapsed since we first published Made of Light,” said Mark Major in a press statement. “The book was part of a wider educational project about light that was also realized through a series of lectures in the U.K., Europe and the U.S., and a traveling exhibition that included the Royal Institute of British Architects in London, the Danish Design Centre in Copenhagen and other leading venues. We thought that it would be fitting to once again celebrate our passion for light, but this time through collaboration with the highly talented photographer and video maker James Newton. Our intention is that by using digital media and then placing this work online we can bring Made of Light to a whole new audience.”
