With more than 200 years of experience combined, Lees and Horton (of Horton Lees Brogden Lighting Design); Fisher, Marantz, and Stone (of Fisher Marantz Stone); and Bettridge and Bernstein (of Cline Bettridge Bernstein Lighting Design) have produced some of the most definitive lighting projects of the past 25 years. They were mentored by some of lighting’s bests, including Jules Horton, Marvin Gelman, and Carroll Cline. Now they are educating the next wave of lighting practitioners. But their impact on lighting goes beyond design (Stone was IALD president from 2004 to 2005). Lighting might be global, but, as these practitioners illustrate, its roots are in New York.
