DOE to Present Webinars on Streetlighting Issues

The U.S. Department of Energy’s SSL program has announced that it will host two webinars in July to discuss the results of the recently release report, “An Investigation of LED Street Lighting’s Impact on Sky Glow.”

Each one-hour webinar will start at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time (9:00 a.m. Pacific Time). A live Q&A session will follow each presentation. Attendees can submit questions to be answered as time permits. Details are as follows:

  • New Date: Thursday July 27, 2017 Thursday, July 20, 2017 – “The Impact of LED Street Lighting on Sky Glow,” presented by Bruce Kinzey of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). This webinar will provide a high-level overview of the above-mentioned report and its findings, putting them in context of “typical” streetlighting conversions taking place in the U.S. today.   • New Date: Thursday Aug. 3, 2017 Thursday, July 27, 2017 – “A Technical Discussion of DOE’s Sky Glow Study, Modeling Methods, and Key Variables,” presented by Tess Perrin of PNNL. This webinar will provide a deeper look into the modeling effort as well as the influence of individual variables. Register for the Aug. 3 webinar.

Elizabeth Donoff is Editor-at-Large of Architectural Lighting (AL). She served as Editor-in-Chief from 2006 to 2017. In 2009, she received the Brilliance Award from the IESNYC for dedicated service and contribution to the New York City lighting community. Over the past 11 years, under her editorial direction, Architectural Lighting has received a number of prestigious B2B journalism awards. In 2017, Architectural Lighting was a Top Ten Finalist for Magazine of the Year from the American Society of Business Publication Editors' AZBEE Awards. In 2016, Donoff received the Jesse H. Neal Award for her Editor’s Comments in the category of Best Commentary/Blog, and in 2015, AL received a Jesse H. Neal Award for Best Media Brand (Overall Editorial Excellence).Prior to her entry into design journalism, Donoff worked in New York City architectural offices including FXFowle where she was part of the project teams for the Reuters Building at Three Times Square and the New York Times Headquarters. She is a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Me., and she earned her Master of Architecture degree from the School of Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis.
