The awards are for architectural lighting design projects. Eligibility is open to all designers, “however, awards will be granted only to the team or teams that performed the design of the architectural lighting for the project.” Entries must be a “…permanent architectural lighting design solution” completed after June 1, 2014. Project categories are as follows: Academic/Institutional; Corporate; Hospitality; Monumental Structures/Public Space; Residential; Retail/Entertainment; and Site/Façade.

Awards are made at three levels: Awards of Excellence, Awards of Merit, and Special Citations. One project from those that receive an Award of Excellence is selected for the top honor, the Radiance Award.

The program is the oldest architectural lighting design competition occurring internationally. “The IALD Awards program encourages professional excellence by recognizing exceptional architectural lighting design around the globe,” said IALD President Barbara Horton, FIALD, in a press statement. “The objective is to bring public attention to the outstanding work of architectural lighting designers by honoring them with professional awards for projects that demonstrate a superior quality of design and execution.”
