The 33rd Annual IALD International Lighting Design Awards were presented April 27, 2016, during Lightfair in San Diego, at an evening program and reception held at the San Diego Air and Space Museum. Seventeen projects—three Awards of Excellence, 13 Awards of Merit (two of which were also acknowledged for their sustainability features), and one Special Citation—were recognized from a field of more than 200 international entries. The Radiance Award, the program’s highest honor, went to Tillotson Design Associates for the Lincoln Square Synagogue in New York.

Projects were reviewed and evaluated by a group of lighting and architectural professionals at the International Association of Lighting Designer’s (IALD) headquarter offices in Chicago in December 2015. The seven jury members were as follows: lighting designer Jytte Basler, IALD, The Flaming Beacon, Berlin office; Los Angeles-based interior designer Maggie Boggs; lighting designer Stefan Graf, FIALD, IES, principal, Illuminart, Ypsilanti, Mich.; lighting designer Uno Lai, IALD, Unolai Design & Associates, Shanghai office; lighting designer Robert Newell, IALD, Robert Newell Lighting Design, Westfield, N.J.; Alkestie Skarlatou, Associate IALD, GIA Equation, London; and architect Michael Winstanley, AIA, Michael Winstanley Architects and Planners, Alexandria, Va.
