The Philadelphia-based architecture firm KieranTimberlake is opening up its new office for an exhibition of its recent work. “Drawn + Quartered” features full-scale models and mock-ups of components and technologies borne from the practice’s extensive research focus. The two-part exhibit opened on May 20 with “Quartered,” a selection of prototypes, mock-ups, and test components presented in the studio. The second portion, “Drawn,” will open on Aug. 1 at the Harvey and Irwin Kroiz Gallery at the Architectural Archives at the University of Pennsylvania, an exhibition partner. “Drawn” will feature a selection of works on paper covering the firm’s formative, pre-digital planning and design projects.

The objects on display throughout the exhibition include a custom cast-aluminum façade strut (shown above) for the firm’s forthcoming Embassy of the United States, in London; an 11-foot-tall polyurethane solar shade for the School of Engineering research facility under construction at Brown University, in Providence, R.I.; 3D-printed prototypes of the firm’s new, full-scale building sensor network, Pointelist; precast building components (shown below) made to test aggregates for a lightweight structural system for the firm’s Ideal Choice Homes project, which is currently in development; and a photovoltaic-integrated SmartWrap façade panel (top image) from the firm’s 2008 Cellophane House.
