The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (GAHBA) and the Southface Energy Institute recently announced the winners of the 2008 EarthCraft House Builder Awards, which recognizes builders, developers, renovators, and manufacturers dedicated to sustainable design and home building. Developed through a partnership between the GAHBA and Southface, EarthCraft House is a voluntary green home building program.

A team of judges from the EarthCraft House Program selected the award nominees and winners.

The EarthCraft House Builder of the Year Award was given to Fortress Construction of Marietta, Ga., which demonstrated exceptional water conservation and tree preservation throughout its design and construction at Callaway Gardens.

For its certification of all its renovation projects to EarthCraft House standards, The Hoots Group of Atlanta was awarded the Renovator of the Year Award.

Lawrence Brothers of Nashville, Tenn., won the Regional Builder of the Year Award for its green infill development, Morgan Park Place, in downtown Nashville.

The Development of the Year Award was given to Serenbe LLC of Palmetto, Ga., for the 100-percent EarthCraft House mixed-use community of Serenbe. The community won for pioneering Transferrable Development Rights, which maintains farmland while developing clustered residential hamlets.

A new award, Multifamily Project of the Year, was given to The Glenwood Park Poolside Flats, developed by Green Street Properties and builder BurrSon Construction.

Recognizing a member company that has achieved national recognition outside the EarthCraft House program, the Accolade Award was given to Haven Properties of Alpharetta, Ga., for its 2006 and 2007 Energy Star Builder of the Year Awards.

The program also recognized Whirlpool as the Sponsor of the Year for its continued commitment to green standards through the development of energy saving appliances.

The EarthCraft House Program also honored project managers and builder assistants who oversaw the completion of EarthCraft House projects.

Project managers: Cam Rabbit, Hedgewood Properties; Don Acker, Eco Custom Homes; Jeff Causey, CCM Homes; and Josh McKenzie, Brock Built Homes.

Builder assistants: Alex Ciuca, CCM Homes; Ben Fulp, Creech Development Group; and Sherry Elrod, The Macallan Group.
