1 MIN READ

The American Architectural Foundation (AAF) and Hartford, Conn.?based United Technologies Corp.—manufacturers of technology products ranging from Sikorsky helicopters to Otis Elevators—have joined forces to form the Sustainable Cities Design Academy, an advisory program that will underwrite the cost of participation and offer technical and sustainability expertise to local governments in New Bedford, Mass., Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. The academy will assist on specific large-scale development projects in each of the four cities. The program will consist of a 12-member team of industry experts to discuss designs and offer help to strengthen the sustainability aspects of these projects, which include residential and community development for land reclaimed from Boston’s Big Dig project and the redevelopment of the Philadelphia Navy Yard.
