Project Description

Designed to function as either an auditorium for lectures, limited theatrical productions, a Moot Courtroom or as classroom space, the Auditorium may be subdivided by an automated movable wall into two separate spaces each with independent multi-media instructional systems.

This complete renovation and revitalization of the existing 380 seat Moot Court Auditorium at Osgoode Hall Law School has provided the Law School with a state-of-the-art auditorium with excellent acoustics, a fully automated touch screen control system, and a flexible millwork system allowing them to customize the auditorium configuration for a variety of occasions and uses.

Key issues addressed in the renovation were the existing poor acoustics, restricted sightlines, inadequate lighting and the introduction of a wireless computer network system and full multi-media instructional capability. The design reconnects the balcony mezzanine with the rest of the auditorium through an innovative sectional design that provides a glass guard rail while maintaining uninterrupted views of the stage. Custom light fixtures were developed to allow for flexibility and the highest quality of lighting at desk level without causing significant glare for students sitting in the balcony. Rich oak paneling, accent lighting and new writing surfaces provide a subtle material palette that highlights the stately existing English cross bond masonry walls while creating a bright and comfortable environment. The new multi-media instructional system includes touch screen control for lighting, sound, digital projection systems, and live web cast streaming of events.
