JanRevaj finished another gem from the 22 White Gems collection
The panoramic view was what inspired architects JANREVAJ for the design of Villa Sky, which swims with the clouds. Another unique private residence from the 22 White gems collection is this time located in an exposed location in a lucrative neighborhood of Bratislava. An unforgettable form and clearly readable dynamic shapes are an authorial style of the atelier and its philosophy – “from line to form”.
On a vineyard
The villa was built on a hill of old vineyards over the city. Relatively narrow land oriented vertically onto a private street lead to a design of a longitudinal multistoried structure – it has one underground and two overground floors. The difficult process of searching for an artful state of balance, lightness, freedom, and flight crystalized a true gem, which doesn’t only offer a beautiful view but is also beautiful to look at.
Light white form
The premises of the house are divided into three floors. The main house entry is located right from the street, in case of arrival by car, it is possible to also enter from a spacious garage. Long ramp declining to the underground floor, which includes covered parking spaces for four cars, is on one side opening to the scenery and brings a unique panoramic view of the city.
Each visit to the villa is a great experience. Its disposition is designed for a bigger – socially active family to which also corresponds richly designed common space – entry hall, living room, dining room on the ground floor, but also rooms as wellness or wine cellar in the souterrain. On the first floor, there is a night area with a number of bedrooms, bathrooms, and a closet.
The art of detail
Consistently placed openings perforate delicate sculptural form, and so a play of lights and shadow is created. The main lighting of each functional unit is insured by big glass surfaces oriented to the views. Secondary parts of the villa are illuminated through ribbed windows and support their shape. The form of the villa stands out and is perceived as a whole. The fundamental premises of the design are emotions and comfort, which are reflected in the interconnections of the elements and clean details. Comfort starts with a spacious entrance with comfortable seating, its background offers visitors a view of the dominant of the city – Bratislava castle. Interior doesn’t owe anything to the impression of the exterior. The space is completed by custom-made furniture integrated into the very form and so becomes its component. It supports the flow of the space and strengthens its naturalism. Last but not least, it was important to ensure fitting lighting, which brings a luminous experience to the villa even after dark.
From the outside to the inside and vice versa
A gallery staircase naturally connects all floors, and its sculptural look exponentiates the unique identity of the villa. One life, one line. Interior and exterior create one perfect whole. The quality and comfort of materials support the experience of living. Passion for beauty, love for art, that’s what connects owners of the villas of the White Gems collection. Different results show the individual approach of authors and their pursuit of unique and timeless work of art. The goal is the happiness of living which became art.
From line to form
Does one line substitute the other, or does the line come from it? Where is the end and where is the beginning? Dance of lines in space, playful lines in air as a scarf in the wind. That’s how the house looks like in the clouds above the city. Decent entry covers forms branching out with a direction over the city. Lines were recreated into a work of art. Form which is not scared to be brave, confident, and despite it, it seems like it grew from this place. It belongs here. Delicate shapes create space, vistas, nooks. A dream about living full of lightness, freedom, fulfilled passion of a person about home. That is Villa Sky.
Swimming in clouds
The simplicity of white form, elegant shapes, and lines make, even out of such a big residence, a structure of a delightful scale. They provide lightness, gracefulness as if it was floating. Floating through clouds, that was also one of the client’s requests. The great experience is not only created by the view itself but primarily by the artfully conceived design of space, which opens various views to the surrounding scenery, and so the visitors are offered literally a theatrical experience full of different atmospheres and scenes.
The terrace with garden brings intimity, gives the feeling of infinity. It is also supported by water reflecting sky and stars, interconnecting earth with heaven. The villa is quietly swimming above the city.
Life with perspective
The open exterior parts of the villa ensure tranquility and privacy. They naturally create leeward and seclusion on a nevertheless exposed place. The top part looks light, it is lightened by enjambments, which cover the terrace on its end but also afoot passage along the house towards it. Attractive location and difficult conditions make a building in its context unique. Life in it isn’t ordinary living but the contrary – real enjoyment.
Form and function born together from a line
The space is compiled as one whole. Every room – every part of these building blocks represents its essential component. Nothing is useless, accessorial. A bedroom expresses a space for independence, freedom of an individual, a right for intimacy. Common space brings a new experience out of time spent together. The relationship with a house expresses the relationship people have with themselves.
