Project Description

This Tribeca apartment was gut renovated to maximize space with a modern design that is in keeping with its industrial history. The layout balances large, open, loft-like spaces with gently divided rooms—achieved, for instance, with factory-inspired steel-and-glass partitions that belie their substantial weight by sliding easily on suspended tracks.

The custom kitchen hides a full walk-in pantry behind it. The walls throughout the apartment terminate in an elegant, minimalist reveal, a detail that would look shoddy without perfectly executed construction.

A subtle decorative plaster finish provides texture and mass to the custom-built fireplace. Reclaimed barn wood flooring softens the modern edges of the apartment.

Custom millwork and cabinetry—in several species of wood—align precisely with other finishes throughout.

The master bathroom features a floor-to-ceiling glass wall, which meets the adjacent tile and plaster surfaces with no visible trim. To maintain an uninterrupted flow of tile, glass, and woodwork, all outlets and other devices were cleverly concealed.
