Project Description
The Veridian is a mixed use project with retail, office space and rental apartments. The project is located within walking distance of the Metro station and is adjacent to the Canada Dry adaptive reuse housing project, also developed by The JBG companies.
The site design reflects the articulated arc of the building’s main façade, with a terraced green stepping down to the cadence of the architecture. A focal plaza showcases some of the project’s Art Deco inspired public art, and helps define the project’s urban identity, while an elevated Pocket Park provides a more intimate open space. Special paving, furniture and planter pots direct patrons and facilitate connections between the unique and varied spaces created around the site.
The design required approval of the Maryland-National Capitol Park and Planning Commission and development guidelines required the developer to provide amenity spaces for public use.
HCM served as a strategic team member in preparing design documents to meet the standards for approval by the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission, as well as landscape architecture and detailed site design.
Specifically, HCM was responsible for design and detailing of all open space amenities including a terraced green, sitting areas, the Pocket Park described above, and Streetscape with high quality paving, planting, lighting, site furnishings and public art.
