A statement from Renzo Piano, Hon. FAIA:
It is a great honor after this comparison, constructive for everyone, to be able to give my contribution to the city of Genoa, my hometown.
A great team of engineers and builders was chosen in order to deal with this work quickly, with competence and professionalism.
It will be a beautiful bridge, beautiful as is the beauty in Genoa.
A very Genoese bridge.
Simple but not trivial.
A steel bridge, safe and able to last for a very long time. Because bridges do not have to collapse.
The Mayor Marco Bucci asked me to be ready to support him in the realization of this work through a supervisory role to guarantee the quality of the project.
I willingly accept.
I am content because there will also be open competitions for the redevelopment of the Val Polcevera area, a busy part of the city.
Building is always a gesture of solidarity, and I am sure it will also be a reason for pride.
