National Purple Heart Hall of Honor, the museum and national purple heart military registry located at the New Windsor, NY Cantonment State Historic Site, has undergone a $17 million expansion. The project expanded its Hall of Honor to incorporate integrated audiovisual and media presentations as well as new military exhibits.
For the building’s facade upgrade, McLaren worked with Kokolakis Contracting and HiTech Steel, Inc, providing delegated design services for the fabrication and construction of the Light Gauge Metal Framing (LGMF) that serves as a supporting structure for the exterior COR-TEN (weathering) steel wall panel facade system. The aesthetic choice eliminates the need for painting, and forms a stable rust-like appearance to exterior.
To prepare fabrication drawings, McLaren’s geomatics team also collected as-built survey data using the RTC 360 LIDAR Laser scanner to create base plans for the field fit up.
Our Construction Engineering team also took part in the expansion, working with Orange County Ironworks, LLC on the delegated connection design for the new building upgrades.
Now open, the mission of the Hall of Honor is to collect and preserve the stories of Purple Heart recipients from all branches of service and across generations in an attempt to ensure that all recipients are represented.
