Project Description

For the first time when I met this 30-years-old house, I fell in love with this house. The house has a mountain a side of the yard seemed to be cut down and you could see Mt. Bukak in the distance.
This house divided with other property to the mountain instead of the fence or brick wall. This house was not flashy but classical and made harmony with mountain. During remodeling, I wanted this house to be where the existing exterior preserved as much as possible and enjoy the mountain quietly. Ironically, The Architect’s house concept is minimizing the house program. I wanted this house to be a place where the mountain is the main character, where you can look at the mountain as quietly as possible, doing nothing as possible, and quietly. The exterior made clean as it is, and the interior was only complementing and styling of functional parts. The Bench and long stair what I can see the mountain in front of entrance. The central space of the yard was made into a clean paper-based space rather than any landscaping. I thought it was more meaningful to included the life of the living and to hold mountains than to design any landscaping in front of the mountain. The wooden stump cut on one side of the yard was left intact, and a bench was installed next to it to look at the house. In this space, I can see the mountain in anywhere. In the indoor space, a small sofa next to the front door on the first floor can be kept quiet alone and the yard is seen. It is a favorite cozy space. The second-floor study is the most frequently used space because it has a good view as it faces the mountain and is directly connected to each room.
When you live in a house not apartment, you have to do different things from season to season, and what you can do is different. In spring, lawns should be mowed or plants planted, in summer, trees and yards should be sprayed frequently, leaves should be swept away in autumn, and snow should be removed in winter.
The colors of the leaves in the yard and the kinds of animals and insects that come to the yard are different from season to season. I feel like living in a house that keeps changing.
