Project Description

FROM THE ARCHITECTS:

The project creates an environment that prioritizes healthy work, celebrates nature and engages the community across multiple scales, from its pedestrian-oriented walkways to its centerpiece building, The Helix. Located in Arlington, VA — the much buzzed about site Amazon selected just outside Washington, D.C., in late 2018 — the new headquarters unites 2.8 million square feet of offices, public gathering areas and street-front retail that seek to create a healthier workforce and community.

Interweaving green space with exploratory moments, the project will offer varied nature-infused experiences that invite discovery, collaboration and reflection. The headquarters will host The Helix, an indoor-outdoor building open to the public that merges alterative workspaces with two spiraling, lush, fresh air “hill climbs” to foster creativity and wellness. A 2.5-acre public park, 200+ seat amphitheater and an artist-in-residence program will encourage places for local residents and employees to connect. In addition, unique spaces throughout the project will provide restorative water elements and native trees for visitors and staff to recharge. With a focus on sustainability, the new headquarters will be LEED Platinum certified and run on 100% renewable energy.
