Project Description

The First Tee program is an initiative of the World Golf Foundation whose mission is to promote character development through golf. The Performance Center facility at Paint Branch Golf Course houses a golf simulator, video driving range, indoor putting green, classroom, and administrative spaces.

Developed for the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission, the Performance Center is separated from the main clubhouse by an entrance drive, creating an effective gateway to the golf course. Built on a limited budget and located on a flood plane, the building is raised on masonry piers that also provide space for secure golf cart storage. An accessible ramp provides access to the main level. Hung from the roof on steel rods, it wraps around the building providing golf course views in all directions. Louvered panels and large roof overhangs mitigate the effects of the sun and create a multi-layered façade composition. Modest, renewable materials accommodate high traffic use.
