Project Description

The Communication Center, a professional training and coaching facility, recently relocated their offices to a 3,855 square-foot space at 1825 K Street in Washington D.C. The new, second floor space allows the Communication Center to optimize efficiency by housing all of their training environments in one connected space. Specializing in highly interactive, custom-designed sessions in areas of media training, workplace and executive communication, and presentation coaching, the Communication Center tapped renowned D.C.-based architecture and design firm, BBGM, to create a flexible, educational environment that meets the various needs of their offerings.

Looking to create an environment inspired by a higher education facility and focused on providing a simple atmosphere to foster learning, BBGM optimized the space to create an intuitive, and clean environment free from distractions. Maintaining a simple color palette, the design team employed a selection of black, white and grey throughout with touches of corporate blue. Light wood floors add warmth to the space.

Upon entering the center, the reception zone features breakaways spaces designed for client use. This area can also be adapted into a venue for larger presentations and meetings. Throughout the space, a variety of breakout rooms include conference and classroom-style environments for group training sessions.

The facility also features a mock broadcast studio with an attached equipment room for live-recorded interview trainings, allowing the Communication Center to prepare clients for press interviews in a replicated setting. Digital elements such as ticker tape along the walls and large numbered doors were added throughout to mimic a real newsroom adding to the authenticity of the space.
