Project Description

The School of Education at the College of New Jersey focuses on challenges in education
from addressing urban issues to adaptive technology that allows people with disabilities
to be fully engaged in education. Along with new flexible classrooms, lecture halls and
faculty offices, this new 79,000 GSF facility houses special facilities for observing group
dynamics, hands-on science teacher training and learning in model classroom settings. A
two-story entry lobby anchors one end of the building, affording access to administrative
and departmental office suites. At the other end, a cafe enlivens the lecture hall and
multipurpose room prefunction spaces, providing meals for evening learners that
begin to arrive after work. The building engages an existing two-story parking structure
conveniently supporting the School’s outreach activities. The building’s massing, scale
and articulation reflects the campus’s traditional Collegiate Georgian vocabulary.
