Project Description

The Cameron is a 380,000 sf residential apartment building designed by WDG Architects featuring retail space on the ground floor, a variety of open space amenities and public art. The project is located in the Silver Spring Central Business District, within walking distance of a Metro Station.

The development guidelines required the developer to provide amenity spaces for public use.

To address the public space requirements, the site design includes a hierarchy of connected and integrated public amenity spaces that provide a variety of opportunities for public use. A geometrically bermed lawn panel is the focal point of the project and displays a dynamic public art component. The lawn is visually framed by an architectural trellis that runs along the streetscape edge. A pedestrian-oriented plaza is marked by vertical elements which reflect the building architecture, seating areas, and high-quality paving materials. By de-emphasizing the functional nature of the vehicular drive, the project ties the vehicular areas into the overall design concept, and softens the magnitude of the vehicular spaces.
