Project Description

Having served the University of Kansas musical community for more than half a century, Swarthout Recital Hall has been modernized to create an inspiring environment that honors and reflects KU’s long-standing excellence in musical education and performance.

The renovation pulled the structure back to cinder-block walls, and constructed an entirely new performance venue with upgraded support spaces and audience seating. A complete acoustical re-design provides superior room acoustics appropriate for state-of-the-art instrument and voice performance.

A new lighting and audio-visual system enhances the performance experience and facilitates professional recording and webcasting. The performance stage includes an integrated lift door to conceal storage of two Steinway pianos.
