Project Description

The City of Sunny Isles Beach created a Civic Precinct with the completion of the Sunny Isles Beach Government Center in 2005. Perkins&Will has been selected to design the Government Annex immediately north of Government Center; this will be a hybrid building composed of educational, office, community theater, civic and structured parking uses. This mixed-use program will allow growth for both the existing adjacent Miami-Dade County Public School as well as Civic and Community Theater programs for the City of Sunny Isles Beach. The design of the new Annex provides separate addresses and access for educational and civic / office uses and the expansion of the landscaped Collins Avenue, civic plaza. The architecture of the new building “floats” the civic and office uses above the lobby and pre-function spaces of the Annex affording continued visibility of the existing Government Center. The material palette continues the use of textured architectural precast concrete and hurricane-impact glazing while introducing an aluminum solar veil along the southern exposure. Perkins&Will is responsible for all of the architectural and interior design efforts for the project.
