Project Description

NOMO STUDIO has released a proposal for two buildings with small apartments for younger people in Stockholm, Sweden. The plot is located in a sensitive green area so a lot of the initial research was to analyse and classify the fauna of the site. Three big oak trees gave the site a strong identity and was decided to be kept and as result the houses that from the beginning was planned as one big house became two smaller buildings, with one of the buildings is slightly bent as a result to protect the trees. The garage of the buildings is not fully covered but instead sticking up one meter to raise the ground floor level so direct visibility into the apartments can be avoided plus gives them a large green terrace. The façade towards the south as large balconies that creates a wave effect. This gesture has two functions, one to break down the scale of the building and second create a balcony that has both a covered area for rain and sun protection and another part that is always exposed to the sun. This gives the people more options to use the balcony since it can be used in almost all weathers and as a results a more lifeful façade. The materials of the building works as a mirror of the surroundings, with a coloured green concrete base blends with the grass around the building, the wooden façade mixed with the trunk of the trees and the green roof is like the foliage of a same tree.
