Project Description

Joe Sirkovich, AIA, who is the lead architect for the project answered questions on South Shpre Medical Center’s facebook page recently. When asked, “What feature of the building’s design will really stand out for patients and visitors?”, Joe answered, “The most obvious is going to be a very unique and unusual exterior on the building. Technically, it is called a ‘high performance pressure equalized open joint back ventilated terra cotta rain screen system.’ That’s a mouthful! So we generally call it the terra cotta rain screen”

The center’s new building, which will open to patients this fall, was designed as the anchor for a new medical campus called Longwater Place, which will include about 120,000 square feet of medical offices and laboratory space in a former uniform factory situated across a parking lot.
