Project Description

Sony Music Nashville (SMN), the country music division of Sony Music Entertainment, is the storied home of the RCA, Columbia and Arista Nashville record labels. Recently relocated from Music Row to The Gulch in Nashville, SMN’s 26,000-square-foot new office space includes 100 work spaces, collaboration and meeting rooms, media archives and multi-use/performance space. As an innovative entertainment company, this vibrant workspace complements SMN’s highly creative and collaborative culture and breathes a breath of fresh air into the corporate landscape.

Along with new leadership – Randy Goodman’s appointment as Chairman & CEO, Sony Music Nashville in July 2015 – came a new workplace vision. With transparency, creativity, and collaboration of primary concern, the design strikes a balance between an open space plan and private space. Open, sit-to-stand desks are located around the perimeter of the space, taking advantage of the floor-to-ceiling windows, daylighting, and views to the Gulch beyond. Flex offices are located at the center of the space and can be used by employees at any time to conduct quiet or confidential work. Retreat rooms for each department, ideal for executive retreats and artist/client meetings, are located at the corners of the floor and boast paramount views.

SMN’s corporate brand standards are incorporated through the design, as are touches to identify the surroundings as uniquely Nashville. Front-of-house spaces – including reception, the boardroom, the listening room (Thirteen) and the Hub café – are all connected through a central “iconic artists” corridor. The Hub, with views to 12th Avenue, cultivates interaction and collaboration with an urban vibe. Canadian Illustrator Sarah Gonzales’ mural expresses the creative energy found throughout the interior design. Equipped with a control room wired for sound performance, tiered ceiling and wrapped acoustical paneling,Thirteen enables demos, auditions and recording sessions. From space planning to interior finishes, the new SMN office is filled with vitality and music.
