Project Description

Seyfarth Shaw, LLP is a global law firm that relocated their Houston office to the 14th & 15th floors of Pennzoil Place. The firm’s innovative SeyfarthLean client service model drove the design concept. Our scope included 1½ floors to consolidate the two Houston office locations, allocating one full floor for attorneys and a half floor for reception and conference rooms. The client specified a need to maximize the number of attorneys per floor, increase the number of team spaces, and provide lounge spaces to promote a more team-oriented atmosphere. The focal point of the project is the Coffee Lounge, which encourages impromptu collaboration. It was also important to incorporate views of the Houston skyline to every employee. A continuous “veranda” along the window walls frames panoramic views of the Houston Downtown Skyline District. Custom furniture installations throughout the space include office casegoods, conference furnishings and Coffee Lounge dining counters. FSC certified Nydree flooring was used for both levels of the space and Tamo Ash wood veneer was used for the millwork. The site itself came with its own design challenges. The unique floor plate could present difficulties for previous tenants that approached the space with more traditional floor plans. However, the structure worked to our design team’s advantage, as they saw opportunities for shaping the multiple team spaces requested by the client. Spaces that were previously little more than white boxes became subject to natural light, with reconfigured circulation connecting the space.
