Bringing Miami Flair to a Jamaican Paradise
The S Hotel, located in Montego Bay, Jamaica, offers an authentic Jamaican experience to its guests with an exterior that brings a bold South Beach architectural style to the Caribbean island. The $12.5 million redevelopment by Crissa Hotels of the former Breezes Montego Bay Hotel into the new 120,000-square-foot luxury hotel brings a new level of hospitality to the area, a concept that offers the sophistication of an urban hotel and the laid-back vibe of a beach resort. MKDA took a geometrical approach to the building in order to capitalize on the breathtaking surrounding ocean views.
The project team stripped the building of extraneous decorative elements and reinforced its structural bones to both modernize the architecture and allow for the addition of two floors at this 120,000 square foot resort. The entrance sets an inviting tone for the property with a beautiful porte-cochere and cobblestone drive, leading to an entrance facade with Jatoba hardwood set against a crisp white facade to frame the entrance and create a path into the hotel’s interior.
The open-air lobby frames sea-side views and beckons guests to take a swim in the crystal blue waters of the infinity pool, which blends seamlessly into the sea. It features a spacious wood-floor and a variety of gorgeous art pieces from local Jamaican artists. Flanking the lobby, the restaurant and spa provide similar breathtaking vistas while also offering world-class services. The beautifully appointed rooms are punctuated with sleek, all-white decor, full-height glazing, exterior balconies showcasing the stunning ocean and private plunge pools on the ground level.
Luxurious Experiences
Emphasizing the luxurious nature of the hotel, visitors are presented with multiple one-of-a-kind experiences. The Sky Club sits on the roof of the hotel, which not only enhances the magnificent ocean views, but also includes a glass-encased pool that enables guests to feel as if they are floating in midair. In addition, the hotel’s spa provides individuals with special Irie Baths, allowing them to indulge in a unique Jamaican cultural experience. These three subterranean marble plunge pools with varying temperatures are specifically designed for kinetic energy therapy while also aiding in circulation, elevating this hotel to a whole new level.
