Project Description

The owners of ROAM, who are avid travelers, wanted to bring the ambiance of global street markets into one eatery, envisioning a space that is representative of a mix of different countries. Ghafari collaborated with them to develop a design that would bring their vision to life, accommodate their programmatic needs, and overcome the challenges of fitting a full-service restaurant within an existing space with very tight constraints.

ROAM includes a dining room that can fit 60-70 people, a bar, kitchen, and outdoor patio. Through strategic material selection, our design creates an environment that is reminiscent of world markets. Expansive windows offer a street view of downtown, and vibrant colors add cheerfulness. Peruvian hand-blown glass bulbs dangle from the ceiling, and laser-cut pieces of art line the ceiling.

ROAM successfully creates a destination for a new food experience in Grand Rapids. With eclectic décor inspired by countries all over the globe, visitors get a sense that they are traveling.
