Project Description
The handiwork of D.C.’s go-to architecture and interior design firm //3877, Residence 1631 is a welcome addition to the rapidly evolving Trinidad neighborhood. Featuring a gray-hued brick facade and sleek inset window frames, the multifamily residence is dressed with curb appeal. The three-story building consists of two central ground level units and two, two-story units each holding a penthouse with subtle brick detail work, marking a departure between spaces. A contingent of smaller square windows are inset into a scaled interpretation of a traditional Dutch farmhouse roof, which is made complete by a modernized widow’s walk. The complexes’ backside follows a contemporary design scheme, with slate gray wood siding and matte black detailing gracing the window frames, balconies, and wrought iron spiral staircase. Providing entry into the backyard from the second level, alongside two sliding door entrances at the ground level, the property’s backyard melds into the property’s garage units (one space per unit). Dressed in fresh natural tones from top to bottom, all four units are awash with natural light and a clean, contemporary aesthetic. Particularly notable are the two, two-story units, each holding a penthouse with a rooftop deck and generously sized open floor plans. Both units provide residents with a spacious kitchen, featuring hardwood floors, crisp white cabinetry, and a centrally located island unit. Designed for both form and function, each kitchen, offers a location to cook and entertain — hanging lantern lights guide the eye from the top of the island into one of the two larger living spaces, with one direction flowing into a sitting area and toward both the central staircase and sliding door accessible deck. At the opposite end, slidable barn doors mark the entrance of a second sitting area. Designed to accommodate both engagement and privacy, the second sitting room is suited for use as a dining or office area. The units’ bedrooms are designed similarly, keeping to the light, airy aesthetic applied in the downstairs area. Two double door closets provide ample storage, while square windows at the top of the exterior wall are designed to infuse light into the space without compromising privacy. Additional bedroom spaces follow suit with creme walls, pine wood floors, and a natural flow to the home’s hallways and bathrooms. The bathroom suite features slate style floors, marble countertops and both elegant bathtub and standing shower units. A sunlight incorporates natural light where access to exterior facade windows are not available. The two units located within the building’s lower two levels offer a design scheme of the same theme. Differing in floor plan, Unit A is concepted with an all-encompassing kitchen, living, and dining room styled to create a cozy yet open space to congregate. Moving toward the back of the unit, the space flows past a full bathroom, guest bedroom, and finally into a master bedroom; the master bedroom opens into a deck. Unit B follows a floor plan that begins in a spacious living room, flowing into a dedicated dining and kitchen area. The unit’s two bedrooms are located past the full bathroom, adjacent to one another, with one bedroom featuring entry onto a deck.
