Project Description

A couple’s retirement home located in Pebble Beach on the historic and heavily visited 17-mile drive, this wooded site provides seclusion and views of the California coastline. The two-story house provides its residents with a cozy sense of home in the form of a traditional farmhouse, with modern detailing and stripped-down raw and natural materiality.

This serene and natural land was once populated with clusters of historic oak trees native to the region. Our primary goal was to minimize the number of trees that would be disturbed with the new development to only younger trees and to avoid those with nesting birds. Leaving the context as natural as possible, the structure stands tall, hugged by a group of tall Oak trees, while peaking at the view of the ocean, and blending into its surroundings by use of raw Western Red Cedar. The double height dining room is defined by double height windows, connecting it to the outside.
